Regulation(s) on the curing agent MbOCA (4,4'-methylenebis[2-chloroaniline]) has been in the news for many years and as ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) updates information on authorisation for use under REACH, it is ever important to be ready to comply.

As many polyurethane elastomer processors identify alternative products to substitute the incumbent MbOCA based technology, the NOTEDOME team in Coventry while providing information on alternative curatives for their NEUTHANE TDI prepolymers have at the same time been developing the next generation of MDI based technology to give NOTEDOME customers’ another option as they seek alternatives.

NEUTHANE 801 XP is the latest MDI based technology from NOTEDOME – NEUTHANE 801 XP is an advance in Quasi MDI technology, widening the application envelope where this family of materials can replace traditional TDI / MbOCA elastomers.

Building on the earlier versions of NEUTHANE 801, a technology that has been widely used for many years in industries such as Automotive, Mining and Offshore energy.

NEUTHANE 801 XP, has been developed to limit the difficulties associated with MDI processing. It allows the polyurethane processor control over their process to provide elastomers with excellent mechanical and dynamic performance.

NEUTHANE 801 XP combines the above features across the hardness range of 60 Shore A to 75 Shore D.  The product is offered as a three-component material and with a bespoke catalyst the system can be optimized to meet the process for a specific moulding. The system gives an even cure with a fast de-mould as the elastomer rapidly builds strength.  There is also a two-component option for where machine processing may not be an option.

NEUTHANE 801 XP is being used in applications with a moulding size of a few grams and up to several hundred kilos, where the dynamic and exceptional tear strength have been proven to meet arduous conditions that the applications demand.

When asked, Shaun Robertson Business Development Manager at Notedome said, “why compromise when you can optimize, as the polyurethane elastomer- world looks for alternatives to traditional urethanes based on TDI/MbOCA  - NEUTHANE 801 XP offers processors an alternative; a worthy challenger.”
